It's been decades since anyone set foot on the moon. Now three ordinary teenagers, the winners of NASA's unprecedented, worldwide lottery, are about to become the first young people in space--and change their lives forever. Mia, from Norway, hopes this will be her punk band's ticket to fame and fortune. Midori believes it's her way out of her restrained life in Japan. Antoine, from France, just wants to get as far away from his ex-girlfriend as possible.
It's the opportunity of a lifetime, but little do the teenagers know that something sinister is waiting for them on the desolate surface of the moon. And in the black vacuum of space... no one is coming to save them.
In this chilling adventure set in the most brutal landscape known to man, highly acclaimed Norwegian novelist Johan Harstad creates a vivid and frightening world of possibilities we can only hope never come true.

Review:
PROS:
1. I've been seeing this book float around for quite a while so I was bound to pick it up sooner or later. Not only does the cover look super cool and the title sound ominous, it has a pretty cool synopsis that I thought sounded creepy to the point where I just couldn't pass it up. I've been gravitating towards creepier books in the past couple of weeks, which isn't surprising since Halloween is just around the corner, so I thought it would be the perfect time to finally pick this book up and see what everyone was talking about. Here's my review:

2. The first thing I want to talk about is the characters. Mia, Midori and Antoine as well as the astronauts sent up to the moon were all interesting characters. I liked that they all came from different parts of the world as well as different walks of life. Mia was in a band, Antoine was still trying to get over his girlfriend and Midori was a young teenage girl who just liked shopping because she could. I liked getting a little bit of background to all the characters and connecting with them little by little. There isn't much back story to any of the characters but what I did get satisfied me enough to want to continue on with their journey.

3. It was an obvious fact going into the book that the scientific facts strewn throughout were very well researched. The author put in a lot of dedication to the researching of space, NASA, astronaut training and the conditions of the moon that really made the book even more interesting to read. I really loved feeling like what I was reading were actually events and facts of a subject I don't know a ton about: The moon, its surface, NASA's previous space missions, the Wow! signal which I knew only a little bit about. It made the book more entertaining to read. If you love a book about anything having to do with space, I would recommend this one.

4. I really loved that this book also had pictures that were made specifically for the story and also had actual pictures of earth from space and of the moon and its surface. It was really cool seeing the details of the moon base as well its layout through the pictures. If you loved Miss Peregrine's Home For Peculiar Children or Asylum, you'll probably enjoy this one as well.

5. Lastly, I would dub this book a great read for the Halloween season. Many people told me how creepy this book was and how they still had nightmares about it even though they read it months before. The last 150 pages of this book were absolutely brilliant in my eyes. It gets creepy right off the bat once the characters land on the moon and things start getting weirder as their time on the moon increases. They see things, hear things, experience things that are unexplainable and keep you guessing as well as on the edge of your seat. The book keeps you asking what's going on and what exactly is on the moon other than the characters. It even had a couple of scenes that seemed straight out of a horror movie so if you don't like creepy or gory, might want to skip this one.

The reason I didn't give this book a five-star rating was because of these reasons:

1. It took a little while for this book to pick up the pace. I was about halfway through the book and the characters still weren't on the moon. I get that the characters and everything had to be introduced and set before the story could continue but I would've liked to have seen it go a little faster in the beginning. I would suggest reading at least the first 100 pages or so, after that it gets interesting.

2. Some of the things that the three teens experience before going to the moon didn't tie in well with the rest of the story, even towards the end of the book when those things are explained. What I mean by that is this: Before heading to the moon, each teen sees something that can't be explained by them or the people around them, each a seemingly eerie warning that they shouldn't go to the moon. It seemed awkward and still like loose ends. I didn't get why those experiences happened the way they did or even happened at all. I guess it did make things a little more eerie to say the least.

3. Some of the POV's in this book didn't add anything to the story for me. They felt like random chapters that could've been left out and wouldn't have changed the story or how it played out. Mr. Himmelfarb added a little more of a creep factor and so did the scientists but I personally didn't think it was absolutely needed to have their say.

Cardinal rule #1 for surviving school: Don't get noticed by the mean kids.

Cardinal rule #2 for surviving school: Seek out groups with similar interests and join them.

On her first day at her new school, Penelope--Peppi--Torres reminds herself of these basics. But when she trips into a quiet boy in the hall, Jaime Thompson, she's already broken the first rule, and the mean kids start calling her the "nerder girlfriend." How does she handle this crisis? By shoving poor Jaime and running away!
Falling back on rule two and surrounding herself with new friends in the art club, Peppi still can't help feeling ashamed about the way she treated Jaime. Things are already awkward enough between the two, but to make matters worse, he's a member of her own club's archrivals--the science club! And when the two clubs go to war, Peppi realizes that sometimes you have to break the rules to survive middle school!

Rating:
PROS:
1. First off, can we just talk about how adorable the cover is? Okay, let's get serious. It's been a little slow for me seeing as I haven't been reading many graphic novels lately due to school, reading slumps, art projects etc. So I was very happy to find this lovely book to get me back into the reading of graphic novels and of course, I ended up finding yet another that I plan on adding to my shelf! Let's get this review started!
2. First, I want to talk about the characters. I really loved all their characters and their goofy, silly and very determined personalities. I loved that the kids viewed their science teacher as an evil genius and their art teacher as a bit of a loser whom they loved anyway. It was funny to see how bubbly and weird some of the kids where in this book (they are in middle school after all) and I loved how the science geeks and art nerds had their own ways of expressing themselves. I really loved our two main characters Peppi and Jaime. I thought Peppi was really sweet, very creative and even a little dramatic. She was a really fun character to follow and I loved seeing her deal with real life lessons about making new friends and learning to stand up for her friends and go for what she really wants. Jaime was quiet and a bit of a geek but he was the kind of best friend I'd want to have myself. He didn't like conflict and he was a bit awkward around people but he knew what he liked and didn't let people change him.

3. I loved the story line so much because of many reasons! I loved that it talks about a really relatable subject of rivaling clubs in middle school and the subject of who to befriend and who to stay away from was very well explored in an entertaining way.  Peppi really wanted to apologize to and become friends with Jaime but things got complicated once she discovered he was part of the Science Club, the soul adversaries of her Art Club. The story line played out really well and I loved that it wasn't predictable like some can be. It dealt with two rivaling clubs that were hungry for bloodshed and tears and will go to any lengths to beat each other for the spot of being included in the School Club Fair. Even if it means all out war and sabotage.

4. I really loved the art in this book as well! I loved how 'fun' it was and how it gave off an innocent, almost goofy, feel to the book just on its own. I really loved the colors used in the illustrations and how it was mainly muted pinks and greys with pops of bright colors in the clothing of the characters and their surroundings. I really love just staring at the illustrations which might seem kind of weird, but whatever. I loved all the detailing of the facial expressions which made me laugh most often and I really enjoyed how clear it all was and how easy it was to read.

5. Overall, I highly recommend this book if you're looking for a simple, funny and quick graphic novel to pick up should you ever need something to lift your mood. It's tons of fun to read, even more fun to look at and who doesn't love a funny and goofy read?

Seventeen-year-old Stevie is trapped. In her life. And now in an eating-disorder treatment center on the dusty outskirts of the New Mexico desert.
Life in the center is regimented and intrusive, a nightmare come true. Nurses and therapists watch Stevie at mealtime, accompany her to the bathroom, and challenge her to eat the foods she’s worked so hard to avoid.
Her dad has signed her up for sixty days of treatment. But what no one knows is that Stevie doesn't plan to stay that long. There are only twenty-seven days until the anniversary of her brother Josh’s death—the death she caused. And if Stevie gets her way, there are only twenty-seven days until she too will end her life.

Review:
PROS:
1. I was pretty interested in this book when I found out about its release a few months ago and I couldn't wait to dive into its story. Obviously, its not really a lighthearted book at all so I had to wait a while before I was finally in the mood for it because, you know, it talks about some pretty emotional subjects. I finally got around to reading it so without further ado, here's my review:

2. I really loved the characters in this book so first, we'll start with our main character Stevie. I thought her character was so realistic and raw and you could really see her way of thinking and how she felt towards food and her weight. She was obviously upset that she was sent to the treatment center and didn't want anything to so with her nurses, doctors or therapists, even the other girls there as well. I loved that as the book progressed, you could clearly see the changes happening in Stevie, both for better or worse, and you could see the amount of development in her. Her eating disorder was also very realistic which was an obvious sign of a very well researched subject by the author. Stevie comes from a broken home and you can see just how much she lets her emotions control her and I thought it was very interesting to be able to see so well into Stevie's mind.

3. I also really loved that the book explored different aspects of the characters, such as their home life. Stevie comes from a broken home- her mother leaving when she was young, and her brother now dead- and she's still angry about both events. However, I loved that all the girls in this book had very different home lives. One girl came a family in which she felt ignored by. Another was being abused by her own sibling. One girl even knew for herself that she had a great life with loving parents who blamed themselves for her having an eating disorder. I thought it was a great way of showing that you don't have to go through something traumatic in order to develop a life-or-death issue or even have a not-so-happy background. There are many different walks of life we take and I adored the fact that the book acknowledged that.

4. The writing was so beautiful and even poetic at times with its descriptions of emotions. You could really get a sense of just how little Stevie valued her life and you could tell just how much she wanted to kill herself and how determined she was to do so. The descriptions of how the girls felt towards their own lives and bodies was very realistic and beautifully portrayed just by the mood of the book and the writing style and even the body language of the characters with all due respect to the illness. You really got into the minds of the characters and though it was very sad to see how much they hated themselves, it was very well written.

5. Overall, I would recommend this book to anyone who's looking for a good book that talks about emotional subjects that are rare to see in YA literature, such as eating disorders. Now I want to give you guys some trigger warnings just in case you may have any. I don't care if some people might find these trigger warnings to be spoilers, it's more important to look out for the well being of the readers, right? This book talks a lot about Anorexia, Bulimia, Self- Harm and Suicide but it also touches on Physical Abuse, Depression, and Purging. I think this book is a great one to read if you want a book about these subjects if you've never really tried to read about them and if you want a book about learning to accept that you're not perfect and that no one else is perfect either. This book really talks about acceptance of your body, yourself and the past and learning to let go of the past.

I didn't give this book a five-star rating because I felt the ending was a bit rushed and a little slow. I would've liked to have seen it drawn out a little more to really feel satisfied with the wrap-up of the story. Also, it didn't click with me on an emotional level but then again, it takes a lot for me just to tear up while reading a book.

YA Movies & T.V Shows: Throne Of Glass, The Fifth Wave & More!

So with all the buzz going around about upcoming YA book-to-screen adaptations, I thought it would be cool to put all these neat updates into one big awesome post for you guys in case you didn't know about these new developments. So let's get started with some upcoming YA movie titles coming up in just a few weeks!

1. The 5th Wave. In Theaters January 15, 2016.

Get ready because they're coming. The aliens obviously. In case you didn't know this was originally a YA book that has some pretty intense hype around it, you now know that you have PLENTY of time to pick this book up or even reread it to refresh yourself before seeing the movie next year. The trailer is officially out and I actually hadn't seen it until I went to see The Scorch Trials the other day.

Personally, I didn't care for the book but I'll probably give it another go just to see if it's better the second time around. It's not the first time that's happened. I also thought the trailer was honestly a weak one. It didn't bring the right feel to the movie and made it look more like a War Of The Worlds copy. Nonetheless, I am looking forward to the movie though I hope the movie is a lot better than the trailer.

2. Throne Of Glass. Optioned For T.V Show.

Before you all start having heart attacks, I'll cut right to the chase here. On September 15, 2015, the author of TOG, Sarah J. Maas, announced that her soon to be six-book series has officially been optioned for a T.V show by Mark Gordon Company.

The company has made beloved shows such as Grey's Anatomy, Private Practice and is behind the highly anticipated The Chronicles Of Narnia: The Silver Chair. Obviously, the book is in very good hands here.

Sarah also said on her blog that she's had a film/TV agent since 2012 so this T.V show news might not have been that recent after all. Just another author secret she's been holding back from her die-hard fans for a few years is all.

Nothing is set in stone yet but at least there's hope for a TOG television show right? Which means I seriously need to read the second book at least . . .

3. Divergent: Allegiant. New Title?!

Now this one completely blew my mind. It was officially announced a few days ago that the last two remaining Divergent movies, originally titled Allegiant Part 1 and Allegiant Part 2, have officially been renamed.

The third movie out March 23, 2016, is now titled The Divergent Series: Allegiant and the fourth and final movie out March 2017, will be titled The Divergent Series: Ascendant. Not too sure how that works but moving on.  Many fans have very mixed feelings towards this new news and I'm not sure how I feel about it either.

Fans are also wondering about the tag line for Ascendant, many saying it's a tease for readers who have actually read the books and know how the series wraps up, especially how the third book ends and what happens to one of the characters. Many readers are nervous as to what it means and if in fact, it means the ending will be changed. I guess we'll just have to wait and see with bated breathe what will come of these movies.

4. A Series Of Unfortunate Events. Casting Rumors.

Ever since the announcement made by Netflix last November of ASOUE becoming their next project, fans have made some intense noise (myself included) about their excitement towards this amazing series becoming a T.V show. However, ever since that announcement, Netflix has stayed very quiet as to who the director will be, who will play the roles of the Baudelaire orphans and even when the show will be coming to your screens.

Rumors have surfaced as to who will be starring in the show and once again, mixed feelings are being felt. Many fans want the original actors to reprise their roles though they know that's not possible since they have already aged. Count Olaf is one character many fans want Jim Carrey to star as yet again and I have to say, I'm so on board with that idea.

Rumors have stated that Netflix is looking at Sopie Turner, one of the lead actresses of the hit show Game Of Thrones, to play Violet Baudelaire and Ender's Game's Asa Butterfield to play Klaus Baudelaire. Other actors are rumored to be optioned as well: Toby Jones for Mr. Poe, James D'Arcy for Lemony Snicket, Peter Capaldi for Count Olaf, etc.

Netflix also announced that the 'teaser trailer' for A Series Of Unfortunate Events that surfaced back in August was in fact a fake and said nothing more. A poster for the show also surfaced though Netflix hasn't said if it's legitimate or not. Regardless, people REALLY want something solid about anything for this series, including me. Many say the show will be released sometime in 2016 where as others argue it will be sometime in 2017. There is a TON of rumors and excitement for this show as you can obviously tell. Nevertheless, the show is on the way and news is still to come.
